At Almosta Ranch our first concern when starting our breeding program was acquiring the best mares possible. Not only were we looking at conformation and athletic ability, but we wanted a fantastic work ethic and considerable size to match to our chosen stallions.

When breeding you are always attempting to find the highest quality and then further improve your next generation. Matching the right mare to the right Stallion is actually simple: Like to like, quality to quality.

We believe dressage is the best foundation for a riding prospect. Forward minded athletes are quick to respond to a light hand and soft leg. These young prospects should be started with forward movement in mind and gradually brought into a more advanced frame as they develop the muscling and tone to engage.

While young horse is becoming confident, looking for the bit and showing the beginnings of impulsion, we feel that a break in arena training will benefit them. Take your partner out hacking and feed the brain with the wonders of trails. This is enjoyable for all and keeps both horse and rider from succumbing to the tedium of arena work. We breed these young athletes to excel in all the sporthorse disciplines and although many riders have one specific element of riding in mind when purchasing a young horse, we hope the future champions from Almosta Ranch will have a chance to enjoy every facet of their abilities.

Tally Ho Commander is our Foundation Sire. Hand picked for his tremendous mind, fantastic topline, extravagant movement and kind eye.

Commander is the ultimate cross for our Thoroughbred mares. He adds the bone, suspension and consistent mind we are breeding for.
